Biography

C. J. (Chris) Fournier is a crime writer, copywriter and journalist. He worked for many years as a reporter and editor with Bloomberg News in Frankfurt, Montreal, Halifax and Ottawa, covering markets and the economy. Born in Halifax, he grew up in Yellowknife and traveled throughout the north as a surveyor’s assistant and later as a writer for Up Here magazine.

He has degrees in English literature and journalism from Dalhousie University and the University of King’s College in Halifax. After university, he had the good fortune to live and work in London, where his jobs included cleaning number 12 Downing Street, bartending at a pub in Chelsea and handing out leaflets for an antiques shop in the West End.

At various times he has planted trees on Canada’s west coast, picked corn and cucumbers on Canada’s east coast and written technical manuals in Amsterdam and Berlin.

He once ran with the bulls in Pamplona, Spain. (Once was enough.)

While living in Montreal, he volunteered at Communitas, a group that works with soon-to-be released prisoners. He currently lives with his three sons in Ottawa and is a member of Capital Crime Writers.

The Freelancer is his first novel. His second is due out in 2023.
